Fairchild and Whitney St. John, a couple once billed as a modern day F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald. According to the NY Daily News, Fairchild, son of former Women’s Wear Daily and W publisher John Fairchild, and St. John, a high society real estate broker, have decided to hold a joint sale of antiques and collectibles as part of their divorce settlement. In headline-making news yesterday, Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin announced their marital separation through a blog post on Paltrow’s lifestyle site, Goop.com titled “Conscious Uncoupling“:

“It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate,” the pair wrote. “We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible between us, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate.” Read more

The New York Times recently reported about the story of Lonna Kin, a 52-year New York woman who says she is being held hostage by ex-husband Meir Kin over his refusal to grant her a “get,” the document required by Orthodox Jewish law to legally end a marriage in the eyes of the Orthodox faith. According to intricate Jewish laws dictating marriage and divorce, only a husband has the power to grant a religious divorce.
